First Shadow Shift
Pair up with an experienced volunteer for your first shift at the CATfé or an event to get comfortable.

Do I need prior experience?
No! We provide all the training you need during your orientation and first shadow shift.
What should I wear?
When representing Lone Star PAWZ at the CATfé or events, we ask that you wear your official volunteer t-shirt and closed-toe shoes for safety.
Where do volunteer shifts take place?
Shifts are primarily located at our CATfé in the “Cat Cave” or at various off-site adoption events throughout the community.
For those in our “Unique Talents” roles, such as writing or digital marketing, work can often be completed remotely on your own schedule.
How do I manage my schedule and sign up for shifts?
Once you have completed your orientation and shadow shift, you will gain access to our Volunteer HUB.
Through the HUB, you can view the upcoming calendar, sign up for available slots, and track your total impact hours in real-time.
Do you offer community service hours for school or work requirements?
- Yes! We are happy to verify service hours for students, corporate social responsibility programs, or other community requirements.
- Please ensure you track your hours through the Volunteer HUB and reach out to our coordinator for official signatures or letters of service.
Can I transition between different volunteer roles?
Absolutely. We encourage our volunteers to explore different areas of the rescue, from hands-on animal socialization to administrative or creative support.
If you find a new area where you’d like to share your talents, simply let us know, and we will provide the necessary training to get you started in that role.
